FEB 6 MEETING IS CANCELLED due to snow. The speaker is rescheduled for June.
Fall Greetings from Liz
Fall is such a beautiful time of year for those who enjoy the extraordinary palate of color. It is with that change that I start this note.
We continue to work through the dust as we continue to restore & rebuild the OLCA website. Sorry for the delays. Our new software continues to throw us a few curve as we install and work with it.
For those of you who do not know, the state of Ohio’s Breastfeeding Rate fell to fourth last in the 2009 Breastfeeding Report Card. (http://www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding/data/report_card.html). This is a very sad statistic, but I know that we have the knowledge and vision to improve that number.
Breastfeeding has been in the forefront of the state of Ohio’s Infant Morbidity and Mortality Task Force. I have had the wonderful opportunity to work on this task force for the past year, bringing breastfeeding as an intrinsic way to decrease infant morbidity and mortality. More news to come once the report will be published on the Ohio Department of Health Web site.
Warmly,
Liz Maseth, RN, IBCLC

To be the voice of Ohio Lactation Consultants in their efforts to transform
society into a breastfeeding culture. To empower, support, and educate our
membership enabling them to be articulate agents for change.
About Us
OLCA (Ohio Lactation Consultant Association ) is one of the
oldest and most active affiliates of the International Lactation Consultant
Association (ILCA). Our close ties to ILCA are strengthened by the direct
involvement of our members. We fully embrace and are committed to the directives
included in the World Health Organization, the International Code of Marketing
of Breastmilk Substitutes, The Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, and the
ILCA Position Paper on Infant Feeding.
Members of OLCA come from all over the state of Ohio. You do
not have to be a certified Lactation Consultant to belong. Our members bring
with them a wish to support and promote breastfeeding in our state. Some are
members of the medical field, some are dietitians, others belong to LLL. Many of
our members are active in other professional associations and serve as links for
breastfeeding dialogue across the state.
OLCA has ...
Participated in the ODH Ad Hoc Breastfeeding Steering Committee for the
Ohio Department of Health Breastfeeding Policy and attended Maternity
Licensure Committee Meetings.
Provided over 25 IBCLE continuing education credits per year at member
meetings and at our annual spring Breastfest conference.
Testified and interacted with legislators regarding legislation impacting
breastfeeding mothers, Lactation Consultants and Breast feeding Counselors
in Ohio.
Testified as an organization, along with individual members, at hearings
for Title V MCH Block Grant every year since 1992.
Collected position descriptions and proposals for lactation programs for
member reference.
